Art Tours by Dianne Durante

Tour 2: Battery Park Sculptures and the World Trade Center Memorial

Approximately 2 hours, 1.5 miles
Cost: $15

How often do you get the chance to influence what your great-grandchildren will see? Dozens of monuments in New York are over 150 years old; the World Trade Center memorial is likely to be with us for at least that long, and ought to be worthy of the time and money spent on it. In this tour, we'll visit half a dozen memorials in Battery Park, then consider why representational art is more effective in memorials than abstract art, landscape architecture, or lists of names. We'll conclude the tour at the World Financial Center, overlooking the site of the proposed World Trade Center memorial.

Meet Sunday May 4, 2008, at 2 p.m.
at the Ericsson statue in Battery Park.
Reservations not required.
